about

SPLICE - is a two track release to start a conversation about Splice, which is an online based sample library full with thousands of other producers sound packs these days.

Is it cheating? or is this the next movement in the evolution of music.
like the sampling of old records to create hip hop.
is sampling other producers sounds and packs is just the next step.
As long as the end result is a killer track, does anyone care?
But is it a killer track because it uses these samples?
how much do you need to manipulate the sample for it to be enough of a change.
music is the arrangement of sounds over time.
does it matter that they are all just other producers sounds, as long as the end result is something fire.
Maybe not all the time but here and there I think it’s ok maybe?
obviously as an artist you want to develop your own sound, but for those more generic loops and sounds Splice does make it easy and efficient to just type in ‘kick, muffled, sub, E minor’ and instantly be offered an array of options.
What does everyone think?

Splice A uses samples almost exclusively from Splice. It started with a beat loop from Holly and and long drawn out choir sound from somewhere else. From there the track just spiralled into a beast of it’s own.

Splice B uses exactly one sample from Splice, but it’s the vocal and main melody sample, and is where the whole track was born from. I had just listened to a Clozee song, searched for vocals and found this sample and then the rest fell into place using my own sample bank, VST’s and a hardware synth.
